The IATF 16949 standard was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and the ISO technical committee in response to the need for a globally harmonized quality management system document.

This technical specification brings together all previously published national automotive quality standards such as QS-9000, VDA 6.1, EAQF 94 and AVSQ.
